Meet Ama
I am Ama Nupe Demuyakor, a trained lawyer and Law and Development expert with substantial experience in consulting, directing and managing NGOs and start-ups.
My work brings together legal expertise and a commitment to social change. As a gender activist, rule of law expert and human rights advocate, I help people and institutions turn their ambitions for a fairer society into action.
I am a trained lawyer with substantial knowledge and experience in consulting, directing and managing NGOs and start-ups. I am a Law and Development expert, a gender activist, rule of law expert, human rights advocate, entrepreneurship coach, and personal and corporate facilitator. I have led and participated in national and international conferences and workshops on women, children, youth, entrepreneurship, law and justice.
I am the founder and executive director of Advocate for Fair Legal Access, Ghana (AFLAC), an organization that addresses the plights of marginalized people by providing legal, economic and social support in Ghana. I currently consult for the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) as a Legal and Project Expert, providing legal services as part of my consultancy. I have worked on LRC’s USAID Justice Sector Support Activity and other human rights projects, including the abolition of the death penalty project in Ghana and the EU Justice for Children Project. I currently work as a consultant on the GIZ Promotion of Rule of Law and Judiciary in Africa project.
I have also worked on national policies and bills including the Affirmative Action Bill, Community Service Bill, The Aged Bill, The Armed Forces (Amendment) Bill, 2022, The Prisons Service Bill, 2021, and the National Gender Policy, among others.
I have worked with various organizations, including Dominion University College, where I was the Strategic Manager. My responsibilities included exploring solutions and innovations beyond the institution to support a dynamic, practical approach to learning. I also played a legal advisory role. I generated and built momentum for ideas, developed an innovative mindset within the campus community, brought campus stakeholders together to support change, developed mechanisms and processes to bring projects to fruition, and connected with partners and funders outside the institution.
I have also worked with the United Nations Youth Association, Ghana, as Head of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. My responsibilities included reviewing contracts, coordinating activities, conducting surveys, and organizing and managing events. I am also the Vice President of the Connect to Wealth Ladies Club, Global.
I am a highly motivated woman seeking to make an impact, particularly in women’s, children’s and youth empowerment, and to influence policies nationally and internationally.
I am a wife and a mother.
